Alcoholism is the preoccupation with or consumption of alcoholic beverages to such an extent that the individual’s social, family, personal and work life begin to experience negative consequences. Those suffering from this addiction continue to drink alcohol despite its negative influence on their life. When alcohol is consumed on a regular basis, a person builds up a tolerance to it and in turn consumes more alcohol to maintain that same feeling from drinking it.
